Good Tuesday Morning,

It is already the last day of September! How time does fly.

In math class we will review the homework(p 232-233 # 7-18 all,#23-26 all, #26-46 even)and make sure we cover any and all questions. Next we will move onward with division of fractions paying special attention to the integer rules. Division is the undoing of multiplication and uses the reciprocals to solve.

Homework: Pages 236-237 # 3-10 all, # 12-44 even numbers.

Today is WHITE BOARD TUESDAY: ALL students are welcome to come in for extra work with fractions, negative integers and homework during tutorial time today. Some of you will have this invitation extended to You. Bring in your questions, flip books, and anything you think you may need for this session.

Test over FRACTIONS( + - x /) will be on THURSDAY!!!!!!!

FYI:
* Progress Notes come out on Friday
* Conference Sheets are out for Oct 9-10. Sign up early for the best selection of times.

Have a nice day.

Good Monday Morning,

Hope you had a wonderfully pleasant weekend and that the rain did not damper any of your plans.

In math, we will be briefly reviewing adding/subtracting fractions, then moving onward to multiplying fractions. Personally, this is my favorite operation of them all. Hope you say the same.

Homework: page 232-233 # 7-18 all # 20-23 all # 26-46 even numbers

I will also be collecting the Missing Mathwork Mystery Forms so be prepared with those to all of you you had the misfortune of getting one.

Thank you to all the parents who did such a wonderful job with supplying cupcakes for our first birthday celebration. They were delicious!!! Especially, a big thank you goes out to Mrs Plaisted for making those monthly calls organizing this for the team.

Thank you, Lily, for making the room scary with more schuzzies!!!
FYI:

9-25-08

Oh Happy Thursday,

Did you all enjoy your extra few hours away from school? I hope so.

Today in math class we are moving onward with working with fractions. Today though, we start using unlike denominators. Another step to add to the process, but with the strong foundation you have already, this should be a cinch. Remember we are still using all of the rules of OOO(Order Of Operations), Positive and Negative Integers, and of course, the fraction rules. Hang in there as we will get though this. You do have to have a strong grasp of this as it is NOT going away. Trust me, pretty soon, most of you will not dread working with fractions!!

Homework: Practice 5.2 # 1-9 all

Have the best Thursday today ever,
Mrs. Charle McAtee

9-24-08

Good Wednesday Morning,
And what a Wednesday it is for you- 1/2 student day. Yippee!!!

In math class we will review the homework on fractions with common denominators. This isn't as easy as it implies, as we are involving using negative numbers and variables in the mix of fractions. After our review, I want you to jump onto the classzone.com Chapter 5 and practice on your laptops.

I also will be checking in on the parent signatures for your last test. Remember this is anohter way to allow your parents to know what your progress is in math.

Homework: Review on classzone.com

Have an earned extra time off today.

Mrs. Charle McAtee

PS It is so nice to see that you are checking in through the blog when you miss class. Keep up the extra effort McKenzie.

9-23-08

Good Tuesday Morning,

Today in math class we are continuing on with addition/subtraction with fractions. This is somewhat of a review on fractions, but the twist is using fractions and negative signs together. This puts a whole new spin on the lowly fraction.

We will go over the homework (practice 5.1 3 #1-24 all) and make sure we cover most if not all of the questions concerning these.

Today during tutorial time(after lunch) there will be a WHITE BOARD TUESDAY time for those who need more practice with integers(positive and negative numbers) and fractions. We will be doing the homework, so this will help all of you get that done. All of you are invited to come. You need to bring in your book, paper, flip books, pencil and most of all, an open attitude.

You will also get your last test back on + - x / integers. We will review these in class and you must get these signed by your parents/guardians.

Homework:
Parent Signature on test.

Good Monday Morning,

Happy 1st day of fall!!! I hope your weekend was the best yet and you are ready to start a new week of learning.

In math class, we are going to review the 4 operations using fractions!! I know this is a much needed review, so we will move through this at your pace. ( For those of you who do not need this review, there is other work for you to concentrate on). Today we will look into both adding and subtracting fractions making sure the denominators are the same as well as mixed numbers. A lot to cover, so make sure you are ready to learn when you walk in today.

Homework:
Practice 5.1 #1-24

The tests you took on Friday will be passed back tomorrow in class as there are several students who still need to take the test. On the whole, everyone scored very good.

So, Lily, What is the Golden Ratio?

Make this a great day for yourselves,
Mrs. Charle McAtee

9-19-08

Happy Friday Morning,

Today we are going to be taking a test on integers, both the positive and negative using all 4 operations. This is an open note test so come prepared with those. Do your very best paying attention to all the details involved.

I appreciate the comments a few of you students made to let me know if you are ready or not for this test.

Homework: Enjoy your weekend.

FYI: There is a new form going to sent out to parents if there is any missing or late work in math during the week. You will need to fill out the assignment missing and the reason for this. On Fridays, any of these will be given to you to have your parents/guardians sign. On Monday, you need to return the form with all the completed work listed. This is another way to update parents on your progress in Math. I will go over this today in class. Hopefully, most of you will never use one of these.

Have a restful weekend,
Mrs. Charle McAtee

Happy Wednesday,
It is picture day, hearing and eye screening day, NWEA testing day and WEDNESDAY. So with all the interruptions of this day, we will try to get to some math! In class we will go over the homework (practice 2.5 even #) and make sure all the fog is cleared up concerning the 4 operations using negative integers.

In addition to the homework, you will be presenting a brief overview of your graphs on the GDI test scores.

Homework: Page 78 and 79 all. ( make sure to follow the hw format).

We should be ready for the test on Friday covering all 4 operations (= - x /) with integers. This will be an open notes test. Come in to see me if you have any questions at all. I am available early mornings before school, tutorial time, class time, and after school if you make an appointment with me.

Make up tests on the last test will be TODAY.

Have a great day,
Mrs. Charle McAtee

9-16-08

Happy Tuesday Morning,

In math class we are moving on with learning about positive and negative integers and how that fits with the operations. Hope this is going well for most of you at this time. This is a foundation to working with solving algebraic equations in the near future. After we correct the homework (practice 2.4 even #) and go over any questions remaining, we will work on the last operation, division using integers. Then there will be class time for your group graphs using the data set of the GDI test scores. Two graphs, mean ,median, mode, and range for the data set is needed per group. You may use the laptops to create these, as well as hand done. What makes a good graph?

I will be checking for signatures on that test today also.

REMEMBER that the makeup test for the PRACTICE 2.3 C test is today and Wednesday's tutorial time. If your score was 80 or less you must be here for this retest.

Homework: Practice 2.5 even #
Group graph project due Wednesday.

Have a wonderful day.
Mrs Charle McAtee

9-15-08

Good Monday Morning,

Hope your weekend was restful and productive so that we have a great start to this week.

In math class we will be reviewing the steps to solving problems with positive and negative numbers. Most of you did a bang up job with this, but some need another review, so we will do this in class. We will also review the rules for multiplying and dividing integers. I find these operations easier to remember than adding and subtracting integers. What about you?
You will be getting these papers back today and you do need to make sure you find your mistakes and then correct them. Also, for those of you who need a makeup test, you may do this on WEDNESDAY during tutorial(after lunch).

As a group and using the test scores on Practice 2.3C, I want you to make:
1. A stem and leaf OR a box and whisker plot (pick one)
2. A bar gram OR histogram (pick one)
INCLUDE the mean, median, mode and range and labels.

Homework: Practice 2.4 even numbers only.
Parent signature on the test. (EVERYONE is to do this, most of the time this becomes BRAGGING time for you!)

Enjoy your day.
Mrs. Charle McAtee

PS SOmeone asked me on the comments if we are having math in the NWEAs- the answer is Yes. DO your very best.

9-12-08

Good FRIDAY Morning,

We made it through another week. In class today we are still going to cover the 2 operations(+, -) with positive and negative numbers( chapter 2). On Monday we will move onto multiplying and dividing integers. Hope this is all making sense to you at this time. If not, you need to let me know today.

In class we will be working on practice 2.3 C # 22-33 all( do this on a separate sheet of paper for working space). You may use the book or your notes. Pass in at the end of class.

For any students who want to challenge themselves, you may do the above practice 2.3 C # 22-32 even numbers only in addition to the Challenge Practice 2.3 # 1-10.

Homework: Review chapter 2

Have a restful weekend.

Good Thursday Morning,

In math class we are continuing on with the 4 operations using positive and negative integers(whole numbers). Feel free to use shortcuts or any type of methods that make this stuff make sense to you. Yesterday we were talking about addition and you were asked to look over subtraction. I hope that any cobwebs about this get cleaned out today.

Homework:

Have a great day.

9-8-08

Good Monday Morning,

Today is the day- It is Animoto time!!! We are welcoming "the Awesome Dawson" back to teach us how to put the finishing touch on our slide show on graphs. I hope you all have a great time with this part of the project. I can't wait to see the finished shows.

There is no homework in math today but look over the next section in the book on Order of Operations(OOO). Tomorrow we will review one of the most important concepts in math and that is THE ORDER OF OPERATIONS. Without this, there would be chaos in math. When do we use the OOO? Why do we have the OOO?

We should be able to step into the the world of Positive and Negative Integers by Wednesday, so refresh your memory on this also. But don't worry, we will cover this fairly extensively as this is the foundation to solving most equations in Algebra.

Hope you brought in your memory stick as you should need this today.

Have a great day,
Mrs. Charle McAtee

9-3-08

Good Wednesday Morning,

The agenda for the day will be to continue on with the animoto slide show on types of graphs. How is that going for you? Let Mrs Dawson or myself know so we can adjust the pace or try to help you with a particular situation you may be having. Remember the date for this to be done is after Friday's class.
Today we will talk about how graphs can be skewed to look ways that are favorable to your outcome, as in advertising.

Homework is to continue working on this project.

Also, I welcome your comments on this blog, but I want your first name on them or they will not be published.

FYI:

Did you remember your storage sticks for class? How about the dress code for your book?
Are you coming in to the OPEN HOUSE(Thursday ar 6:30-7:30) tomorrow?

Have a productive day today,

Mrs Charle McAtee

9-2-08

Good Tuesday Morning,

I hope your long Labor Day Weekend was restful and you are ready to go today. I am so looking forward to having Ms. Dawson come into math class today and tomorrow and help set us up with some technology.
The agenda for the day will be to use this new technology in interpreting graphs (bar graphs, line graphs, histograms, scatter plots, box and whisker and stem and leaf plots). When do we use graphs, why do we use these, are some graphs better to use for different information than others, what makes a good graph, and how would use use graphs to mis- represent your information. Along with the vocabulary associated with graphs: mean, median, mode, frequency tables, data set, you will be making slides to make this meaningful.

SO.... on your team graph, you need to make 12-15 slides for Project 1.1

The last slide should be Work Cited-make sure you copy the url (cite)as you take from the internet

The first slide should be an introduction of the project on graphs
- Who team is and period (First names only)
-What project is about- ( types of graphs)
- What makes a good slide(labels, equal increments,etc)
- How are the graphs related? ( line and scatter)

The 2-8 slides should be( in any order): Include examples and vocabulary (data set, mean, median , mode, range, frequency table)that pertains to graphs.
Line graphs
Bar graphs
Histogram
Pie
Box and Whisker Plot
Stem and Leaf Plot
Scatter Plot

Slide #9 is a conclusion - summation about your project.
-What did you learn
- How can graphs be skewed to reflect your needs

Slides 10-15- Creative Parts-Strut your stuff!!!

Make sure that each partner in the team has all the new information daily.

Due Date is this Friday(September 5) at the end of the class!

Flash Drives are going to make this easier to work at home and in partners, so bring one in daily.

Have a great day and can't wait to see you in math class.
Mrs.Charle McAtee
