Good Friday Morning,

From the amount and voice of the comments, I believe that you have a solid handle on the foundation of solving 1 step equations. Congratulations as this is not an easy concept, but rather on the more difficult side- the work got harder but you got smarter!!! way to go class.

In math class we will indeed go over the homework (page 111 #9-20 and page 115 #5-16) and make sure we are rock solid on solving and CHECKING equations. After all questions, I want you to preview solving 2 step equations.

Homework: Enjoy your weekend.

Good Thursday Morning,

How are you doing with the homework(practice 1.5 all)? Using the inverse operations to balance equations can sometimes be tricky, but my hope is that by now, you are mastering this. Let me know how things are going in class or make a comment here. We are going to review this 1 step solving equation for another day as it is this foundational.

Good Tuesday Morning,

In math class we will be going over the homework and getting to all of the questions you may have. Then, we will move onward to EQUATIONS. A new format for this is expected and you will find an example of the Rectangle Format in your flip book on Formats and Standards. With equations you are solving for the unknown, and that is generally the letter. We will move on with this for several months as this is one of the main concepts in 8th grade math.

Homework: page 30 #6-32 even numbers( and yes, the word problems!)

FYI:
* Today is the first collection day of the magazine drive

In math class we will be working on the data from the last test on decimals. As a group you need to find the mean, median, mode, and range of the data set as well as construct 2 graphs, Box and Whiskers and Stem and Leaf. You need to be ready to present these today in class.

I will also be checking parent/guardian signatures on the decimal test.

10-15-08

Good Wednesday Morning,

In math class we are taking another mini test on chapter 5 - this time with the 4 operations with Decimals. The little twist with this computation test is that there are Negative Integers to confuse the matter. So be careful with the details. You may bring in your notes and please use them. Here's to clear and detailed thinking for today.

Homework: Enjoy your day.

This new grade is the grade that will be recorded in the grade book. SO, keep up this good work. For those of you who did not take the test, I am raising the grade by 5 points!!

In math class we will review adding and subtracting decimals. After a quick review, we will move onward to multiplying and dividing decimals. What are the tricks for mastering this???

Today is White Board Tuesday. Everyone is welcome to join for a recap on Negative integers, fractions and decimals, and a REVIEW FOR THE UPCOMING TEST ON WEDNESDAY!!!!

10-8-08

Good Wednesday Morning,

Today in math class we are going to take the retest for all who came in yesterday for the tutorial help. There were so many students who came in, that I would have no room in tutorial for the retest. Make sure to bring in all your flip books as this is open notes. If you are not taking the retest, you will be playing the Game 24.

Homework: review the chapter 5 on classzone.com

FYI:

* Half school day for students on Thursday
* No school on Friday or Monday!!

10-7-08

Good Tuesday Morning,

In math class we will be looking over converting fractions to decimals and back. Hope this was more of a review than a new concept for most of you. make sure you bring in any questions you have to class so we can clear up the fog. After correcting the homework(pages 244-245 even #), we will move onward to adding and subtracting decimals. The trick to this is that you are lining up the decimal points using negative and positive integers!! So revert to using the flip book if necessary. Negatives are NOT going away from now on, go get used to them now!!!!

I will be collecting the test signatures on Chapter 5 test.

WHITE BOARD TUESDAY is today. Come in for help on fractions, negative integers and review for the retake test on Wednesday.

Homework: pages 249-250 #12-54 Even

FYI:
* Conferences are this week
*Progress Reports are due back with parent signatures(give to homeroom teacher)
*Half day on Thursday

Good Monday Morning,

I hope your weekend was totally enjoyable and you are rested and ready to start the week.

In math class, we will be going over the continued work with fractions and how they are connected to decimals. How do you turn one into the other, what is a rational number, what is a terminating decimal, and repeating decimal? As you can see, there is a fair amount of vocabulary attached to this concept.

Homework: pages 244-245 # 2-48 even #

You will also get your test back on = - x / fractions today. We will go over the work, and then you need to have your parents sign the test.
***** If you need to retake this test, you must come in during tutorial tomorrow,10-7-08, and review with me. Then you may take the retest on Wednesday during tutorial. Check with me today if this does not work for you.

Good Thursday Morning to all from my home,

As you have figured out, I am not there today, but things are to go on with the test anyways. I will be back tomorrow and find out that ALL of you were doing what is expected of you.

In math class, you are to take the test on + - x / fractions with negative integers. This is open notes, so feel free to use them and do your very best. Do all your work on another paper, put the answers on the test, make a comment about the test, and pass in the test to the sub.

NO HOMEWORK!!!! Yippee!!

Pass in the conference time sheets to your homeroom teacher asap.
PROGRESS REPORTS come out this Friday.

Have a great day and stay dry,
Mrs. Charle McAtee

PS Thank you for the comments on how you are doing in class. I need to hear when you are struggling on concepts, but also that a certain thing helped, as in WHITE BOARD TUESDAY. And no, I did not forget to write a blog on Wednesday. The internet was down all day and I could not get to it. Sorry.
